TRIO’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Angela Harris, will join leading industry experts as a panelist at the 2025 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Spring Meeting in a powerful session titled “Design Solutions in the Wake of the Affordable Housing Crisis: A Multidisciplinary Collaboration.”

The session will take place on Tuesday, May 13 from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM, bringing together a dynamic group of architects, urban planners, developers, and designers to address one of the most urgent challenges facing our built environment today.

Addressing the 7-Million-Unit Gap in Affordable Housing

With a shortfall of more than 7 million affordable housing units for low- and middle-income families, and nearly 50% of renters now considered cost-burdened, the demand for innovative, sustainable, and human-centered housing solutions has never been more critical.

Angela and her fellow panelists will dive into strategic design approaches that prioritize flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and aesthetic integrity, while meeting the diverse needs of communities across the country. By showcasing real-world case studies, the panel will offer insight into how design thinking, technology, and cross-sector collaboration can shape the future of housing for the better.

A Multidisciplinary Approach to the Housing Crisis

The session underscores the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in solving complex issues. From optimizing floorplans and material selections to creating emotionally resonant environments that support well-being, the conversation will explore how design can be both a creative and pragmatic force in addressing housing equity.

Angela brings TRIO’s deep commitment to human-centered design and sustainable development to the discussion, offering valuable perspective on how thoughtful interiors can enhance quality of life—especially in high-impact, high-need housing developments.
