A Message from Angela Harris

Nearly 20 years ago, I saw a need in the market for a design firm that could be a true partner to builders and developers – a firm that understood the sales and marketing aspects as well as how to deliver compelling design. TRIO was born out of a belief that through a market-driven design approach, we could hit targeted markets at a lower cost, in a shorter time period and with better quality merchandise. We were right.

Today, TRIO collaborates on all aspects of master planned communities, model homes, clubhouses, sales centers, commercial and hospitality projects, and multifamily apartment communities. We also offer a comprehensive studio for everything related to interior architecture and merchandising. We’re one of the fastest-growing design and merchandising firms in the nation for a reason. We set ourselves apart through hard work, expertise, client service, and a deep understanding of the importance of designing marketable products. And, in my opinion, we have one of the best teams in the business.

Angela Harris

CEO & Principal

Angela’s approach focuses on building strong, collaborative relationships with builders, developers and REITs through TRIO’s design services for multifamily, model homes and commercial projects. Using the latest in technology and market research, Angela creates forward-thinking environments that help clients reach their sales and leasing goals.
With a master’s degree in Sustainable design, Angela brings a passion for environmentally responsible solutions that consider how a space impacts the health and happiness of the people who use it. Having established a reputation for designing environments that seamlessly blend marketing, design, wellness and sustainability, Angela is currently leading the charge to incorporate WELL Building Standards into production and multifamily housing.

Under her leadership, TRIO has received more than 50 Awards in the past five years, including both Detached Community of the Year and Master Planned community of the Year at NAHB’s The Nationals in 2019. Angela’s individual honors include the 2018 NSMC Associate of the Year, 2016 Icon Award from the Home Building Association of Metro Denver and designation in Professional Builder’s 2015 “40 Under 40” program, which recognizes home building’s next generation of innovators and leaders. She was named 2014 Builder Partner of the Year by Denver’s Home Building Association, and its 2013 Rising Star and Volunteer of the Year. She regularly speaks to national industry audiences about brand positioning, design, sustainability and merchandising.

Drake Harris

Chief Operating Officer

As COO of TRIO, Drake oversees the company’s diverse business operations, optimizing efficiencies and procedures to ensure the company is able to scale with client demand. He brings a wide-ranging background in operations and management to his role, including over 25 years in start-up, mid-size and global Fortune 50 companies in the technology, real estate and media space.

Prior to his role at TRIO, Drake served as Senior Director, Content Distribution for Comcast and NBCUniversal for 10 years, where he negotiated complex affiliation agreements as part of a team responsible for $3 billion in annual revenue. Drake graduated with degrees in Communications and Business Management from Ohio University, and served as revenue chair for the NBC SportsNet Philadelphia Shining Star Awards while also supporting fundraising efforts for the Sean “Ranch” Lough Memorial Scholarship Fund.

He prefers boots and flip flops to wingtips, Golden Retrievers to toy poodles, sailboats to speedboats, books to TV shows, anything outdoors, and family above all else.

Elizabeth Hester

VP Construction

Elizabeth brings a unique skillset to the role of Vice President of Operations at TRIO, including more than 16 years of design experience and an innate ability for strategizing and problem solving. This expertise, combined with her passion for shaping a positive internal culture, have made her an essential asset to our leadership team.

Elizabeth is responsible for leading the team in the successful execution of drawing sets and technical specifications. She also oversees all production scheduling, construction site visits and organizational wide training programs. Elizabeth works in tandem with the VP of Creative, leading the design team to deliver exceptional and consistent design to our clients.

Prior to joining TRIO in 2012, Elizabeth amassed a broad range of design experience through designing model homes, residential design projects, commercial office buildings and multi-family communities. After 5 years as a Designer and Design Director with TRIO, Elizabeth transitioned to VP of Operations, a role that capitalizes on her creative talents and strategic vision for the organization.

Elizabeth has a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is a LEED accredited professional, and is NCIDQ certified. She enjoys participating in events a Home Builders Association of Metro Denver and is passionate about continuously expanding her knowledge in the areas of design and construction.

Aside from design, Liz enjoys cooking, entertaining and spending time with her husband and son, preferable in the beautiful Colorado mountains. She also enjoys being able to give back to her community through support of local non-profit groups that focus on at-risk youth.

Christie zumBrunnen

VP Creative

Christie brings more than 16 years of experience in multi-family interior design, model home merchandising and high-end residential design to her role as Vice President of Creative at TRIO. Drawing on her natural design talents and ability to execute complex projects on time and within budget, Christie provides indispensable design leadership within the organization.

Christie joined TRIO in 2015. She quickly established herself as an exceptional designer, working with clients such as Reylenn Properties, LMC and Shea Homes. Recognizing her talent and role as a design leader, Christie was named head of Creative in 2017 with the goal of establishing and refining TRIO’s signature design approach.

Prior to her work with TRIO, Christie spent a decade working as an interior designer and then as Director of Design in California before moving to Colorado in 2010 to open a brewery with her husband and continue her career here. She graduated from Brooks College with a degree in Interior Design. In her free time, she enjoys traveling the world and spending time with her husband, son and the family’s miniature schnauzer, Levi Honky-Tonk.

Carrie Firmine

VP Business Development

Carrie brings nearly 20 years of sales and marketing experience to her role as Vice President of Business Development at TRIO. The combination of her extensive experience and enthusiasm for our business have made Carrie an important driver of TRIO’s growth since she joined the company.

Carrie discovered her passion for the architecture and design industry while representing a decorative architectural glass company, during which time she got to know TRIO’s founder, Angela Harris, on a project. Angela recognized Carrie’s ability to make relevant connections and effectively articulate TRIO’s market-driven design approach, leading her to bring Carrie onto the team and heading up TRIO’s Business Development efforts.

A Colorado native, Carrie holds a degree in International Business and Marketing from the University of Colorado Boulder. She enjoys snowboarding, Pilates and yoga, and spending time with friends and family, including (most importantly) her daughter.

Mark Barger

VP Marketing & Brand Strategy

As Vice President of Marketing and Brand Strategy, Mark plays a vital role in establishing TRIO’s brand identity and differentiating the company as a market-driven design firm. With more than 20 years of experience helping startups and small businesses grow and extend their brands across multiple channels, Mark’s skillset makes him a natural fit for TRIO’s rapidly expanding business model.

As a marketing & brand strategist, Mark’s efforts over the course of his career have helped raise more than $320 million in funding and allowed numerous companies to exit successfully. Many of his achievements have come in the tech sector working with large corporations like Microsoft, Cisco, Intel, and Apple. But his true expertise lies in helping smaller niche businesses accelerate time to market by developing unique branding and memorable marketing campaigns.

When he’s not creating logos, traveling to tropical beaches, attending concerts, or chasing his three-year-old around the house, Mark is most likely trying to find a place to nap - usually unsuccessfully.

Sandy Saul

Executive Vice President

As Executive Vice President of TRIO, Sandy brings more than three decades of expertise as a leader in the industry. Sandy joined TRIO in 2018 with the acquisition of her Denver-based design firm, Design Lines Inc. Sandy founded Design Lines, Inc. in 1983 with the intention of running a small residential interior design firm. However, as her reputation for exceptional design grew, she began working with builders and developers on larger projects. Eventually, under Sandy’s leadership, Design Lines grew its offerings, establishing a national practice specializing in model homes, apartment communities, sales centers, clubhouses, and all the amenities associated with 55+ lifestyle communities.

Sandy is also a member of the Urban Land Institute’s 55+ Lifestyle Residential Development Council. She has been listed in The Top 100 Woman owned business in Colorado repeatedly over the last 10 years.

In her free time, you can find Sandy either cycling or skiing in the place she loves so much, the Colorado Rocky Mountains. She has two grown daughters that make her very proud.

Tina Villa

Regional VP, Business Development

Tina is an entrepreneurial sales leader with more than 20 years of experience cultivating strong relationships with key decision-makers in the builder and developer communities. Based in TRIO’s new West Coast office, Tina is responsible for strategically growing TRIO’s portfolio while helping the firm expand its footprint with the region’s leading builders and developers.

Prior to joining TRIO as Regional Vice President, Business Development, Tina led the sales and marketing effort at Design Line Interiors. As a practicing interior designer earlier in her career, Tina built a business development plan that addressed common challenges that home-buyers, builders and developers experience throughout the design process. The implementation of her growth plan led to an increase in existing business and new client relationships. Before that, Tina held increasingly progressive sales positions, including Director of Business Development for Interior Specialists, Inc.

Tina is an active member of the building community in Southern California, lending her time and expertise to the Building Industry Association of San Diego as a member of Sales and Marketing Council. She’s also a member of the Charity Committee for Orange County’s Greater Sales and Marketing Council. When Tina’s not seeking out TRIO’s next design opportunity, you can find her spending time with her family or discovering hidden treasures at local antique malls and estate sales, including her favorite, a still-functional 1937 Crosley Super 11 radio.
